REVIEWS FOR THE TRANSFORMED
EDITORIAL REVIEWS
4.5/5 stars. For fans of medical thrillers, this is a fantastic read.
The Transformed had me gripped from page 1, and I read it in one sitting. For fans of medical thrillers, this is a fantastic read. Raphael Hirsch is a well known scientist, and as such the scientific detail in the novel is of the highest standard. The back story of Sartan is also believable, although maybe too 'out there' for some medical thriller fans. Apart from the heavy sci-fi plot near the end of the book, which stretched believability, it was a great book and an author I’ll will be watching.

5/5 stars. Fantastic gripping read
I can only repeat what others have said. Fantastic gripping read and what a medical thriller/suspense genre should be like. I cannot wait to see what the author has up his sleeve next. Waiting in ANTICIPATION! Raphael Hirsch............you are up there with the best Ken Mcclure, Crichton and Robin Cook.

4/5 stars. Medical Thriller
The Transformed is a gripping medical thriller with a Jewish 'twist'. It's about a cancer epidemic, fueled by man's evil enemy 'SARTAN', which has been beaten back, but not vanquished... It's a great story -- I especially liked the character of the Rabbi Lipsky, who uses ancient texts to help unravel the source of mankind's destruction lurking inside our bodies.

4/5 stars. Gripping DNA Thriller
Robert Newman is a scientist obsessed, closing in on a cure for genetic diseases...Early in the story we learn that more than a quarter of the U.S. population are turning up with strangely aggressive cancers. Well, I won't spoil the plot for you...You'll have to read it for yourself, and I promise you won't be able to set it down, except to catch your breath. This is a fast paced medical thriller, packed with fascinating information about DNA and the whole exploding field of genetics.

5/5 stars. Fantastic, gripping read!
I nearly stopped reading when I learnt what Sartan was, but I'm so glad I continued. It's a gripping read, very science fiction based, with believable developed characters and many twists.

5/5 stars. A first-rate biomedical / sci-fi thriller
This is the first novel from Dr. Raphael Hirsch, a renowned genetics researcher and Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Having previously read his second effort,Informed Consent that was published in 2004, I was even more impressed by this book, as its content and style reminded me of some of the best Michael Crichton fiction - with elements of The Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, and Prey combined with a dose of pre-Biblical anthropology to form a compelling, terrifying, and all-too-realistic page-turner. Can't wait to see what Dr. Hirsch sets his pen to next!

5/5 stars. Excellent read
My goodness, you actually cared for the characters and the plot line was very novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A real page turner if ever I saw one. Easily worth more than the asking price, easily! I doubt you'd be disappointed in this book even if sci-fi isn't your bag. Like a thriller? This is for you. Like sci-fi? This is for you. Like something to think about? This is for you.

The passage was full of details, action, characters ... This is a very interesting and exciting set up for a thriller. I had chills reading the prologue ...

4/5 stars. Medical Thriller
Like his first book, this is also a medical thriller with a Jewish aspect. This time, the Jewish 'twist' is about a mad Nazi doctor who performed genetic experiments on David Myers' mother in Auschwitz. David goes to Germany, and finds a secret facility where experiments are still going on. David finally manages to solve the riddle and expose the evil secret of what happened to his mother and other young women in the infamous Barrack 12 in the Auschwitz concentration camp...

5/5 stars.
I admit - I bought this Kindle title mainly because it was recommended by Amazon based on some of my other books, and because it was just $0.99. I was pleasantly surprised. While clearly written by a long-time medical professional (I later found out that Dr. Hirsch is currently Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Rheumatology at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh), the prose does not disintegrate into biomedical jargon. This, combined with a plot which raises a variety of philosophical and ethics questions, a roster of well-developed characters, and a good measure of exciting action sequences, made it hard for me to put the book down. Highly recommended!

5/5 stars. Medical Thriller
I found this book to be both fascinating and harrowing at the same time. My only quibble was why Vincent Heller didn't have a name change when he escaped justice from his infamous past as a cruel and inhuman doctor at Auschwitz and set up a successful career in America. However, I found it to be unputdownable and the author's knowledge of genetics was totally absorbing. I will certainly read more of his books and this one comes highly recommended. I've never written a review before but felt compelled to do so now!
